HIV and Women in Prison

Gender inequality, stigma, discrimination and gender-based violence add to women’s vulnerability to HIV in prisons. HIV rates among women in prison are always higher than those among men in prison.
Yet women have less access to health and HIV services than men in prisons. Ensuring gender responsive health and HIV services is crucial towards achieving the targets of the SDGs and the UNGASS on Drugs Outcome Document.
