UK Still Using Victorian Era Abortion Laws

According to the British Pregnancy Advisory Service, the UK is still using an “outdated and sexist” regulation to prohibit abortion. The law was created in the Victorian era and states that a woman needs the permission of two doctors before she can legally abort her pregnancy. If she fails to do this then she will be sentenced to twelve years in prison. Anne Furedi, a CEO of the British Pregnancy Advisory Service, states, “One in three women will have an abortion in their lifetime in the UK. The ability to end a pregnancy has enabled women to live their lives in the way that they see fit and bear children at the time they think is right.”
